Manager, Tax Technology — DoorDash Tax Platform & Business Projects (US East Coast)

About the Team

DoorDash is looking for an experienced Manager, Tax Technology to lead the tax platform and business projects of our growing Tax Team, with an emphasis on new integrations — new verticals, new merchants/partnerships, and new product launches. This role sits at the intersection of tax, product, engineering, and the Vertex Center of Excellence — turning business and tax requirements into configured, tested, live capabilities and working with the offshore implementation team delivering that work day to day.

As DoorDash continues to grow across new verticals and markets, we are looking for a candidate who combines indirect tax knowledge with the ability to translate business and tax requirements into clear functional system requirements, lead cross-functional delivery, and own the delivery of new tax platform features on both the in-house and third party tax engines.

About the Role

You will report to the Senior Manager of the Tax Calculation Platform & Mx Operations and lead tax platform and business projects on the DoorDash platform. You will partner closely with Tax Engineering, Tax Advisory & Planning (TAP), Tax Product, and other stakeholders — gathering business and tax requirements, translating them into tax-system functional requirements for configuration, testing and cutover, and reviewing Technical Design Documents (TDDs) to provide functional tax expertise back to Tax Engineering.

The primary focus of this position is end-to-end delivery of tax features, new-vertical / new-merchant or partnership / new-product launches, and legislative changes on the DoorDash platform, grounded in US sales and use tax, Canada GST/HST/PST, and Australia and New Zealand GST, across food and beverage and retail tax context, with an understanding of how data flows from upstream systems through the tax engine to downstream reporting. Rather than handing off requirements to the Vertex Center of Excellence team, you will apply your own Vertex knowledge to help influence the functional design and determine the specific Vertex configuration a solution requires. This position may work remotely within the US, but will be based on the East Coast to accommodate EMEA time zones and meetings with global stakeholders.

You're excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Lead tax platform and business projects on the DoorDash platform, including new vertical launches, business and enterprise merchant launches, new product launches, and legislative changes.
  • Gather business and tax requirements from TAP, Tax Product, and business stakeholders, and translate them into tax-system functional requirements for the team to configure, test and deliver.
  • Review BRDs, PRDs, and TDDs for tax-system implications and provide functional tax expertise back to Tax Engineering.
  • Define testing requirements and oversee test validations across unit, integration, E2E, shadow, and post-launch phases.
  • Trace tax-relevant data from upstream systems through Vertex to downstream reporting, and flag gaps or risks.
  • Validate operational and system readiness for production releases and document post-launch lessons learned.
  • Serve as a functional bridge between non-tax tech stakeholders (e.g., TAP, Engineering, Product) and the technical tax technology teams (e.g., Vertex CoE).
  • Partner closely with US and Mexico based peers and offshore team members on the same pillar — sharing workload, coordinating coverage across time zones, and supporting knowledge transfer on complex initiatives.

We're excited about you because…

  • You have 6+ years of indirect tax or indirect tax technology experience.
  • You are well versed in US sales and use tax, with experience across Canada GST/HST/PST and Australia and New Zealand GST, and food and beverage and retail tax context.
  • Hands-on experience implementing or configuring Vertex O Series, and ability to review Vertex configurations and testing documentation and provide feedback.
  • Hands-on experience implementing or configuring ERP tax integration (e.g. NetSuite) with the Vertex tax engine.
  • You can translate business and tax requirements into functional system requirements and review technical and functional design documents.
  • Direct engagement with engineering teams on tax system technical and functional design, product development, with working knowledge of the end to end tax platform launch processes.
  • You understand how tax data flows from upstream transaction systems through a tax engine to downstream reporting systems, including both in-house systems and ERP integration flows.
  • Project management experience, including creation of project charter, project plans, milestones, gantt charts, RAID log, and timelines/due dates.
  • Comfort building trust and driving alignment with cross-functional partners (Engineering, Product, TAP) without always holding formal authority over their roadmaps.
  • You have experience with productivity programs (Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides; Monday.com, JIRA etc).
  • Experience in use of SQL or Snowflake for data self-serve, issue investigation, or testing validation.
  • Experience in use of API testing tools like Postman, SOAP UI and ability to read XML and JSON logs.
  • Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or Computer Science degree.
  • You are fluent in leveraging multiple AI tools on the market (e.g., Claude Cowork, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor) on a daily basis across all of your assigned tasks, and you actively look for creative ways to apply them to enhance processes and create efficiency gains.
  • Familiarity with Marketplace Facilitator laws.
  • People-leadership or team-lead experience, including coaching, workload delegation, and quality oversight.
